Did you know that according to an Angus Reid survey, almost 40% of Canadians are SBNR? Join us at Bethlehem Centre, Nanaimo, BC’s community multi-faith spiritual hub, at 2371 Arbot Rd. Sunday, December 2nd, 2018, from 2:00-3:00 pm for a fascinating delve into the topic of the growing, “spiritual but not religious,” (SBNR) community with speaker and journalist Anne Bokma, writer for the United Church Observer. Tickets are $25 in advance at the Bethlehem Centre located at 2371 Arbot Rd. and $30 at the door. Order your tickets by phone at 250-754-3254 and online at our website: https://bethlehemcentre.com/events/what-i-learned-about-the-sbnrs-during-my-year-of-living-spiritually/. A full-time freelance writer based in Hamilton, Ontario, Anne has been a journalist for more than 30 years at Canada’s premier magazines and newspapers. Her multi-award winning exceptional work has been recognized with awards from both the American and Canadian Church Press, the Canadian Business Press, the Canadian Society of Magazine Editors, The Canadian Association of Journalists and the North American Travel Journalists Association. Bokma’s blog, “My Year of Living Spiritually,” (a year-long experiment in attempting to live a more soulful life), has transformed into a captivating book that will be published in late 2019 by Douglas & McIntyre. Anne’s monthly award-winning column, Spiritual But Secular, runs in each issue of the United Church Observer reporting on spiritual practices that resonate with the SBNR including drumming circles to pagan rituals, meditation, forest bathing, community singing groups, ecstatic dance, yoga, pilgrimages, reiki, gratitude exercises, 12-step programs, tarot reading and more. For her 2017 My Year of Living Spiritually blog, Anne practiced many SBNR disciplines herself. Do SBNRs have something to teach churchgoers about finding purpose, meaning, understanding and community? Join us and learn more about this large, growing group of spiritual seekers from the witty and engaging Anne Bokma at beautiful Bethlehem Centre located in the tranquil woodlands on the lakeside at Nanaimo, BC’s Mt. Benson. Bring a friend and enjoy the outdoor labyrinth and Bill Godden Finger Labyrinth Museum or visit the gift shop; an outlet of Global Village.
