Region - Qualicum North/Lighthouse Country

Dotted along the unspoiled coastline north of Qualicum Beach you'll find a series of charming small oceanfront communities, each with its own completely unique flavor. Boasting Canada's mildest climate with warm dry summers and short mild winters, residents of the lightly-populated areas north of Qualicum Beach enjoy the picturesque natural setting and peaceful rural atmosphere, miles of rarely-visited beaches, scenic parks with walking trails, and access to an array of year-round outdoor activities including golfing, hiking, biking, swimming, mountain biking, horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, boating, and fishing...it's an outdoor adventurists dream-come-true!

Travelling northwards from Qualicum Beach, you first pass through the community of Dashwood, where you'll find a mix of rustic country homes and sprawling acreages, as well as the 18-hole Arrowsmith Golf and Country Club, which features a pro shop, café, lounge, and dynamic views of Mount Arrowsmith.

Next along the highway is Qualicum Landing, a gated 15+ acre resort development of 62 beautifully finished cottages. Residents enjoy first-class amenities, including a heated outdoor pool, two hot tubs, a clubhouse with a fitness centre, games room, pool table, and lounge, as well as a delightful private beach overlooking the Strait of Georgia.

A few minutes up the highway, you arrive at Qualicum Bay, the beginning of an area known as Lighthouse Country—a chain of small seaside communities defined by dual lighthouses: the Chrome Island Lighthouse near Denman Island and the Sisters Lighthouse near Lasqueti Island. Local attractions include the Lighthouse Community Hall, which hosts a mix of year-round events and dances; the Lighthouse Country Regional Trail, a popular hiking/biking spot winding through a rare Coastal Douglas Fir forest; the annual Lighthouse Country Fall Fair; and the yearly Bluegrass Festival, which attracts acts from all over North America.

Qualicum Bay offers a mix of smaller country homes, farms, ranches, and upscale acreage homesteads. Residents enjoy easy access to Spider Lake, home to a provincial park with a sandy beach and picnic facilities, as well as Horne Lake, which features a variety of off-grid lakeside homes and a provincial park offering caving, camping, boating, and lakeside adventures.

Next along the highway is the peaceful waterfront community of Bowser, a favourite spot for clam and shellfish diggers. Here, you'll find various shops and services, including a convenience store with liquor and postal outlets, a legion, a restaurant, a hardware store, and Tomm's Food Village supermarket. Just minutes from Bowser is Rosewall Creek Provincial Park, which boasts a beautiful trail through the rain forest leading to a waterfall and picnic area.

Just minutes north of Bowser is the small seaside community of Deep Bay, which features a marina, fantastic salmon fishing (including Chinook salmon up to thirty pounds), and fabulous windsurfing. At the northern end of Lighthouse Country is the small hamlet of Fanny Bay, where the Community Hall hosts a variety of events year-round. The area is also known for its farmed shellfish, including Pacific oysters, Manila clams, and mussels.
