Welcome to the unpredictable life of a wildness surveyor in 1970’s British Columbia!
Presenting Bears, Guns and Leeches: A Surveyor’s Odyssey, Patrick recounts a remarkable series of true stories from his years working deep in the forests and remote frontiers of Western Canada. From the rugged Caribou region to the wild islands of Haida Gwaii, our author recounts treacherous terrain, eccentric characters, and stories balanced between comedy and danger.
Rich with adventure, history, and rugged humour, Bears, Guns and Leeches is both a memoir and a vivid snapshot of life in Canada’s wild frontier.
Patrick Tibando was born in Victoria, BC, and raised in Ontario, Quebec, and England. Curiosity for the landscapes and places he visited eventually found direction through his education in surveying. This led him to a career that carried him into some of the most remote and rugged regions of British Columbia and Alberta. Looking back, the stories of his early surveying days fill him with nostalgia and amusement.
