Apr 17, 2019
|

Amelia Thomas and GroundZero Acoustic Lounge present a night of some of Brazil’s best music. From enchanting bossa novas to heart racing sambas, let Amelia and her band sweep you away to Rio right in the heart of Parksville. With repertoire from the Antonio Carlos Jobim, Chico Buarque, Jorge Ben, Caetano Veloso, Elis Regina and more – there is sure to be a tune to get everyone moving. Amelia Thomas studied jazz and trumpet at both the prestigious Conservatorium van Amsterdam and Vancouver Island University, where she received her Bachelor of Jazz Studies degree. Somewhere along the way she fell in love with the music of Brazil and wanted to bring this joy to those around her. She has had two incarnations of this band, one here on Vancouver Island, and the second in Iceland, where she spent all of 2017 living and performing. Amelia has also played horn and sang with local island legends La Familia, The Kerplunks, Schmooze Productions, Top Men, Kendall Patrick, The Stacks, John Lee, Ryan Oliver, Roadside Rattle, and more.
