49 years ago, Joy Mackay and the Hall Board came up with the idea for a special ‘Errington Day’. It has changed over the years, but still remains a day for all Erringtonians, their families, friends, neighbours and former residents to get together – a bit of a reunion, each year. Here’s the schedule for 2018:
8-10am, Pancake Breakfast at the hall, complete with sausages, fruit, juice and coffee.
10am-1:30pm, Arts and Crafts display, you’ll see Paintings, Carvings, Posters, Drums, Posters and much more.
10am-1pm, Farmers Market always live music from the Community Stage – and for this day we will hear from friends and musical partners of David Malek who was instrumental in the making of the Market, the Stage and the Hall’s Universal Access Ramp. There are benches and picnic tables and lots of friends, neighbours and former neighbours to re-connect with, so come along – we’ll have kids activities on the Field, so bring the family.
12:30pm, Hi Neighbour Day Parade – Another long-standing Errington tradition. Decorate a car, a bike, or a tractor – kids and adults dress up – local groups and businesses make a float and join in, anything goes. No registration required.
1pm, 8th Annual Greater Errington Memorial Zucchini Races. Yes, we do race Zucchinis in Errington! On the field, in the Community Park. Four at a time, the wheeled Zucchinis roar down the ramp to crash into the barriers, collide with a competitor or cross the finish line. It’s exciting! Prizes in the Adult, Kid, and best-Decorated categories. If you are interested, come to the Market on Saturday, August 11th for a Pre-Race workshop and see how it’s done. Large wheels and suitable axles are hard to find, so get looking now. We hope to have Zucchinis available for sale to prospective racers.
