Phil Dwyer Jazz Academy Faculty Concert
“I think this is one of the best music faculties for a summer camp that’s ever been assembled in Canada”, says Dwyer, a multiple Juno-award-winner and Member of the Order of Canada.
With a faculty consisting of some of Canada’s finest musical educators, recording artists and performers, students have the rare opportunity to learn with Ingrid Jensen, hailed as one of the most gifted trumpeters of our time. Saxophonist and Member of the Order of Canada, PJ Perry was featured soloist for the 2010 Broadway production of Fly Away.
Composer-musician Christine Jensen will work alongside longtime Head of Guitar at Humber College, Ted Quinlan who joins fellow faculty member, bassist Neil Swainson. 2013 Juno Award Winner for Best Contemporary Jazz Recording, saxophonist Joel Miller joins pianist Chris Andrew, a key player on the Alberta jazz scene along with New York drummer Jon Wikan. Filling out this award-winning faculty are bassist Ken Lister and drummer Hans Verhoeven of Vancouver Island University.
Ticketed activities for the Academy include the must-see event of the summer – the Jazz Academy Faculty Concert at Knox United Church on Thursday, August 16th. The show starts at 7pm and tickets are only $25 regular, $22 for Oceanside Community Arts Council members and $15 for students. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the who’s who of Canada’s jazz scene together on one stage, right here in Parksville!
