Located just a short drive north of Nanoose Bay are the Oceanside communities of Parksville and Qualicum Beach. The Oceanside area is home to approximately 40,000 residents.
These unique seaside communities, with their temperate climate, have made them a favourite vacation spot for visitors for many, many decades. It is fast becoming one of Canada's most desirable places to live, whether you are raising a family or looking for the perfect spot to retire. The spectacular sandy beaches, world class golf courses, plus a host of other attractions, events and activities throughout the year, are still drawing thousands of visitors plus a continual flow of new residents from around the world.
Oceanside'e surrounding communities include Errington, Coombs, Hilliers and Whiskey Creek. They all have something special to offer, whether you are living here or just visiting. These areas are a little more rural, with farms and agriculture. There are several hobby farms and specialty shops selling their handmade crafts, home grown produce and homemade goods.
Errington is known for Englishman River Falls, the North Island Wildlife Recovery Center, Little Mountain Lookout and our (not so secret anymore) Top Bridge Swimming Hole.

Coombs is famous for its frontier style town, with the Old Country Market with the goats on the roof. You must stop here, at least to have an ice cream. There are several annual events in Coombs, including a rodeo and a Blue Grass Festival. When you need to have some peace and quiet, a trip to Butterfly World is a necessity.
Heading past Coombs towards Port Alberni, are the communities of Hilliers and Whiskey Creek (no, they do not make whiskey here). If you missed an ice cream at Coombs, you can always stop for one at the Whiskey Creek General Store. There are several antique shops here and be sure to check out the Wooden Nickel. From here, you must travel a little farther to see Little Qualicum Falls, Cameron Lake and Cathedral Grove, also known as McMillian Park, with its several hundreds of years of old growth forest.
The area has several wonderful beaches and the good news is, there is so much space, there is room for everyone. At Rathtrevor Park, Parksville, the beach stretches for miles and when the tide is out, you can walk for hours. Even in the summertime, with the campground and resorts full, there is plenty of room and you can find your own space if you are looking for solitude. Parksville Beach is a wonderful picnic spot and is host to the annual BeachFest, including the Canadian Open Sand Sculpting Competition. There is a great playground and water park for the smaller children and a superb skateboard park for the older ones. The beach at Qualicum is excellent for swimming and has a paved walkway along most of it, making it great for wheelchairs or the elderly to stroll along. Qualicum Beach is a perfect place to enjoy awesome sunsets.
